Data loss after 2^15 hours of operation with HPE SAS SSD

Description:

HPE has issued a firmware fix to stop certain SAS SSDs crashing at 32,768 hours of operation. If it is not applied, the drive will fail at 32,768 hours operation time, meaning 3 years, 270 days 8 hours, and data on the drive will be lost.

The list of affected systems include "HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9" which is probably used by some customers to run Airlock Secure Access Hub. Please check https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00092491en_us for further information including a complete list of affected systems.

Workaround:

We highly recommend to apply the provided HPE firmware upgrade for all affected systems.

The following command can be used to check if an SSD drive is installed:

cat /sys/block/sda/queue/rotational

"0" is an indication for SSD.

The following command can be used to get the device model number and firmware version:

smartctl -i <device, e.g. /dev/sda>
