  • VMware Player 5.x
  • VMware Workstation
  • Oracle VirtualBox

Prerequisites

The following components are needed for the installation:

  • Airlock WAF Release notes
  • latest Airlock WAF CD/DVD (available here)
  • Supported virtualization environment, see above.
  • min. 2048 MB RAM per Airlock WAF instance
  • min. 18 GB free disk space per Airlock WAF instance

Creation of the VMware instance

Unless otherwise stated, we recommend to use default VMware settings for any Airlock WAF instance.

  • Connect to your ESX or ESXi server with the vSphere Client.
  • Create a new virtual machine (Menu > "File\New\Virtual Machine...").
  • Choose Custom and enter a VM name.
  • Choose a resource pool (if defined).
  • Choose the data store.
  • Choose the virtual machine version (available version depends on ESX/i version).
  • Choose Linux, then CentOS (64-Bit)
  • Choose "number of CPUs/Cores" (we recommend at least 2 Cores or CPUs).
  • You need at least 2 GB RAM (bigger is better).
  • Choose interface devices with adapter type "VMXNET 3".
  • Choose pre-selected SCSI-Controller LSI Logic Parallel.
  • Create a new virtual harddisk with at least 70 GB (bigger is better).

The main instance is now being created.

In conjunction with Airlock WAF 5.x some installations discovered issues with network adapter type "E1000". That's why it is recommended to use the advanced network adapter type "VMXNET 3".

Airlock WAF installation on the virtual server

Note: Airlock WAF is not installable by "Easy install". You have to create the VMware instance first, then boot from the Airlock WAF CD/DVD.

    • Start VMware vSphere Client and open the VM console
    • Power on the new VMIf the Network Boot message is displayed press ESC to enter the Boot Menu
    • Click on the CD icon in the toolbar and choose "CD/DVD Drive 1" > "Connect to ISO image on local disk..."
    • Select the Airlock WAF Installation ISO and click on "Open"
    • Select the "CD-ROM Drive" in the Boot Menu and press Enter
    • In the GRUB menu choose "Install Airlock"

Follow the installation instructions from the Quick Start Guide, which is available here.

    Installing the VMware tools

Since VMware ESX and ESXi 4.x it's not necessary anymore to install VMware Tools, but it's still recommended.Note: Be sure to completely finish the Airlock WAF installation before installing VMware tools. To install the VMware tools do the following steps:

    • Select your Airlock WAF VM in the vSphere Client Inventory tree
    • Right click on the VM and choose "Guest" > "Install/Upgrade VMware Tools"
      or
Open the window console, click on the menu "VM" and choose "Guest" > "Install/Upgrade VMware Tools"
    • Log in to Airlock WAF with user "menu" on the console.
    • Choose menu item "Expert Settings"
    • Then choose "Install VMware Tools"
    • After the VMware tools installation try to log in to the Configuration Center.
    • If the Configuration Center is not available anymore, do a Re-IP to temporarily configure the new network adapters: Log in to Airlock WAF on the console with the user "menu" and pick "Expert Settings"-"Set network basics for the internal network interface (re-ip)". Follow the steps on the screen.

Using Re-IP does not influence the Airlock WAF configuration. To make the new settings permanent, use the
Configuration Center - "System Setup" - "Nodes".
