Cluster Upgrade

The following procedure describes how to upgrade an Airlock HA cluster setup from 4.2 to 5.

A full installation from DVD is required to upgrade each system. This will take approx. 2 hours to complete.

Preparations

Please refer to the general Airlock 5 Upgrade Guide for upgrading a single node.

Upgrade steps

1. Upgrading system A (passive System):

  • Take system A offline by clicking the "Offline" button found in "System Setup > System Admin > System Control".
  • System B should remain in active mode and all applications should still be accessible as normal.
  • Install Airlock 5 from DVD on system A.
  • Just make minimal changes on the new installed Airlock 5. That means for the moment make NO Virtual Host configuration.
  • Activate the minimal configuration on system A.
  • Take the system A offline.
  • Import the cluster configuration from backup. Make the necessary changes (see Airlock 5 Upgrade Guide) and deploy required add-on modules.
  • Activate the configuration. After activation system A should remain in offline mode.
  • Make sure that the configuration is complete and correct.
  • Export the latest configuration from system A.

2. Switch from system B (4.2) to system A (5):

  • Take system A online and at the same time take system B, still using 4.2, offline.
  • System A with Airlock 5 should switch to active mode.
  • Make sure that the traffic is served through system A and everything runs properly.

3. Upgrading system B:

  • Install Airlock 5 from DVD on system B.
  • Just make minimal changes on the new installed Airlock 5. That means for the moment make NO Virtual Host configuration.
  • Activate the minimal configuration on system B.
  • Take the system B offline.
  • Import the latest configuration exported from system A.
  • If needed, make the necessary changes and deploy required add-on modules.
  • Activate the configuration. After activation system B should remain in offline mode.
  • Export the latest configuration from system B.

4. Complete the cluster:

  • Import the latest configuration exported from system B to system A.
  • Activate the configuration directly on both systems. Choose "Activate on 'system A' and 'system B'" on the activation popup.
  • Set system B online. It should directly switch to passive mode.
  • System A should be active and system B passive.
  • Check if the traffic is still served only through system A and everything runs properly.
